I would say wait until you get promoted. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. MD is great but you have a bunch of firms in the consulting world. I used to be impatient like you. My best advice to you is, Get promoted ( get experience), then try for MD and other consulting firms that offer roles that will help you gain experience. If you make the jump get 2-3 yrs of solid consulting experience then go for any firm you want even if its MD. There is no substitute for experience.
Quick route - if you don't have an MBA go to one of the T15, then try to get in as a grad hire.
Thanks D1! Much appreciated. Follow up q, does experience make up for non-target undergrad and postgrad and average A-levels (UK SATs)? I fear they will hold me back when applying to MD/ MBB.
And, how often are there vacancies in MD Strat, M&A, because I’ve never really seen any so how do people get roles they actually want when job hopping? Is it just luck and timing?
Second this. Definitely wait until at least one major promotion. Otherwise this will reflect badly on you. Next to that, what are you looking for specifically by jumping to MD from Acn?
I cannot speak for ACN myself, but all points you mention above make absolute sense and are in line with stories I heard from friends at ACN Strategy.
