I would talk to the manager. The manger needs to know what is going on so they can know what to do on their end. If they are a good manager, they should be able to make life easier.

They have a tough relationship with their manager, so I'm trying to help them navigate that first
I’d encourage your partner to have a note from her doctor stating the diagnosis of adhd as well.

This is a really good point, thank you!
I also think the best course of action would be to sit down with their manager and have a proper discussion about what they're going through. Do they know your partner has ADHD? If so they should be prepared to show their diagnosis and even educate them on how ADHD can impact their performance. If they're employer is an understanding one, then this is something that shouldn't be an issue.

They don't know and my partner has been masking for a long time.
Does their workplace have employee resource groups? If so, there’s likely a disability one that may have resources for scenarios just like this—my workplace has a toolkit for employees to use when preparing to disclose. Your partner may also want to seek reasonable accommodations—like noise canceling headphones, or even a quiet workspace away from open space or other distractions.
