Hi all - I am a junior (almost 3rd year) M&A associate at a mid-sized firm. While I love M&A, I find the actual legal part of the transactions to be the least interesting part (love the strategic element). I am thinking of trying to pivot to PE or a corporate business development role/enterprise strategy. Do any of you have advice for doing this? Or suggestions on how to make this pivot/people to network with? Thank you!

I'm just wishing you good luck. You will need it.

Go to an in-house legal department (that is active for M&A) and then pivot internally to corp dev.

Agree. Get on the inside to understand the cadence, analysis, decision making process, etc.

What are the pros and cons of joining a Captive Organization for Salesforce ?

It is true that in service based consultings the learning curve will be better coz we'll get to work on a lot of projects compared to a captive organisation ?

How should one decide? Can someone list out the pros and cons of both. It would be really helpful for a lot of people.

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

Jr. Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm in Central Florida. Good credentials; top 10% at T14, law review. Sick of private practice bc of hours and pressure. Also, not enjoying the work that Central Florida offers, but want to live here.

I want to one day have my own firm. Trying to think outside the box on how to get the experience w/o being in big law for ten years.

Thinking of applying to be an ASA and to the FL AGO. Would like trial experience or civil rights/con law work.

Thoughts appreciated!

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
