I’m currently a Manager at a Big 4 in India, earning about ₹40 lakhs per year, which includes a 35% bonus.

I’ve got an offer from BCG in the UK for:
• £63k base salary
• 16% variable bonus
• 9% pension contribution
• Health insurance included

I understand cost of living in the UK (especially London) is high, and the tax rates are steep compared to India.

Would love to hear from people who have made a similar move.

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.

Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear.
