I’ve been trying to get into the top tier Associate Product Marketing Manager position Google for some time now for just an interview and I feel like business majors somehow have such a stronger chance in getting interviewed especially my business school and I feel really discouraged as an Econ Major and I have a lot of marketing experience that I’ve built over the years. Are there any non-business majors in the tech realm in non technical positions at Google that can advise me?

So I just recently passed my CPA exams and I’m now looking for new opportunities. I’m hoping to work at a big 4 firm in tax and possibly connect with anyone working there right now. Please reach out to me, I would look forward to connecting and learning more about potential opportunities. Thanks!EY PwC Deloitte KPMG

Always weigh your guaranteed cash comp the heaviest. You should be able to meet all of your financial needs with this. NEVER place your hopes onto a discretionary bonus which may or may not happen. For stock, it’s good that you’re at least at a large public company, but again I’d treat it more like a bonus - a nice to have if and when it vests. This is the golden handcuff that keeps you tie to a job you may not love because you’re so close to the next grant. Cash is king. Yours to invest however you choose in whichever company you want.
One thing, that can be hard for accountants, is you need to actually value the company and understand where it’s going or where it can go. Because it is definitely relevant in terms of what comp can look like down the road, or security
EY 1 is right here. I’ve gotten 2 equity grants, 1 will almost certainly be entirely meaningless and it’s the one I fought for hardest. The other would have been actually very significant had I joined like 6 months earlier but they raised a round right before I joined at 2021 valuations.
I’ll probably make 3-5x might strike price on that one in a 5 year time frame, so put up $10k cash out $40k lets say. Would have been 10x had I joined earlier though.
There’s also the non-liquidity element, unless the company you are joining is series A or earlier you do have to typically put up some capital to exercise shares.
Thanks. The Company id be joining is already a publicly traded Fortune 500 company.
I recently moved from Big 4 to Tech industry (Fortune 500) as an SM in VHCOL. For salary, I got a 10% increase. Annual target bonus is 20% which is way higher than big 4 (5%-12% as avg - above avg performer). The way I look at equity - there’s the initial equity grant that vests over a 4 year period and was essentially a cash signing bonus. It also makes up for any annual bonus you may have forfeited when leaving your previous job. My company also has annual equity refresh (50% of my base salary vested over 4 year). In addition, I also look at the 401k / retirement and health benefits and compare to big 4 - can’t imagine they would be worse. this provides a pretty good picture of the overall total compensation package.
These are great packages! The ones I've seen mostly just have that 15% bonus.... I'm in tax so maybe there're less opps 🤔
