How do you push for change or challenge decisions at work without stepping on toes or damaging relationships with people you collaborate with regularly? In cross functional environments it can be difficult to speak up when something does not seem right or when you believe there is a better approach, especially when the decision sits with someone more senior or from another team. How do you raise concerns, offer a different perspective, and still maintain strong working relationships?

I think you just have to really work on your delivery. Most of the time, conflict is caused not because of what is said but because of how it was said. So find a way to respectfully and humbly express your point of view, and then you won't have to worry about offending anyone.

like

A lot of communication in those situations comes down to reading the room. If you get the sense that a decision has been made and there's no changing someone's mind, you might as well stay quiet. The exception, of course, would be if the decision is bound to create some serious problems. In a situation like that it still has to be handled deftly, people in general dislike being told their decision may lead to a disaster.

Sometimes, it’s how you push back. For example, it’s probably not a good idea to challenge your boss in a town hall meeting.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Hello, I am in USI GES tax at DUSI. I love my job but not my team and mgmt anymore. I'm a performer and I'm dumped with work of 2 ppl while others are searching for work. I am burned out.

I resigned and accepted a job with EY GDS with a huge pay bump that DUSI can't match but I also gave up my potential promotion for 2023.

I've been feeling bad about putting my papers down and letting go off my promotion but I am really tired. I took up this job as an escape.

Did i do the right thing?

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

Recently, the CEO and my boss, the VP gave me the latitude to promote myself and "write my own" job description. I've been the Marketing Manager of this company for about 7 months. Already received 1 raise.

Much of the work in my "new" job description, I've already been doing. My currently salary is $70K. New title is Director of Communications and Systems Integration. What is a reasonable salary increase here.

I have about 7 years experience in this area.

1) The contract doesn’t mention a notice period in the probation period. What’s a good way to ask? 2) If I manage to secure another offer between contract signing and start date, would this involve any financial liabilities?
