I would say depends on your stage of life. If you can knock it out before you have kids and the business is too busy, go for it asap.
As in how soon after you got your 7? I got my 7 in ‘04 and started studying in ’12. In my opinion the wait was helpful because I gained real world experience that reduced the memorization that I needed. Two other guys in my review course that were licensed for less time were on their second try, for what it’s worth.
Taking the courses right now. Been in for 3 years, but I'm single with no kids. Figured it would be best to do it before life happens
Sooner the better
CRPC about 4-6 months in to get some letters. It was pretty standard to start with that. Knocked out a few CFP mods over the following few years and also got other designations along the way. CFP in 5th year. It’s all good knowledge.
I got my CFP pretty much as soon as I could use it (3 years in the industry).
Different for each person - I had been in the business for 7 years and was 40 with school age kids, married and started my CFP. I would agree that if you are single and no kids - get it done!
Did the CFP in fourth year. Felt like I wasn't on the brink of going out of business in any given month but I didnt have kids yet so still had some free time.
