Husband started a new job and I'm helping him set up his new 401k with Vanguard. Is this a good allocation (he's 44)?
50% VFIAX
6% VWIGX
40% VBTLX
4% VTABX
I'm trying to keep it fairly simple. The other option is to do the 2040 Target Retirement fund but I've always been wary of those.

Also, does it make sense to also hold ETFs that might overlap some of these retirement funds like VTI?

If you can have it in your 401k then sure. Otherwise go for it. It’s an ETF

It looks alright. I typically recommend at least 25% of stocks to be international(and overall international, not growth emphasized). Other than that looks good to keep it simple!

Not a bad suggestion. Will look to up the international allocation. Based on a very quick check, the growth fund had better historical performance (though yes I’m aware of past performance doesn’t indicate future) and Morningstar rating than the total market so that’s the main reason I went with that option.

I meant VOO not VTI (as equivalent to VFIAX)

Why not do a target date fund?

I’m looking at VFIFX for reference

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

I know both are different and not comparable since one is captive and other is service based.

In terms of wlb, work from home flexibility, job security and career growth and other employee benefits, I need to choose one. Please suggest which is best with reasons or with your own experience.
Thanks!
