Between the two, probably the Jeffersons. But do you have a certain budget? I can throw out a lot more suggestions that way. Helps if you give me a location too because some stuff is easier to find in certain areas
That price cap opens up a lot of options. Weller is generally a crowd pleaser (poor man version of famous Pappy). Even on secondary, Old Weller Antique 107 should run $100, and has the wow factor of “hard to find”. Running about $150 retail is Bardstown Discovery, the latest release #7 is getting good reviews.
Jefferson’s.
But I’d seek out a Maker’s Mark Private Selection if there’s a total wine or liquor store near you that picks barrels.
Go for the Jefferson’s Ocean. Both are good but it’s got a more unique backstory since the barrels are aged on ships at different parts of the sea.
I would recommend Basil Hayden at a very nice price point.
Gonna second Accenture1. Basil Hayden’s is not in the same league as these or many others. Overpriced generally too.
I had both recently and I really liked them but the Jefferson’s Ocean was more enjoyable I think. My wife got me a bottle for our anniversary in August and it went quick.
These are in the $50 range. I like michters but there is others in that range that might be better
Think that depends on the ‘voyage’ - the 17 is a $50 bottle
I would say set your budget and go to your retailer like Total Wine and ask for help. They are experts. I think this particular Jefferson’s is overrated. You are paying for the “ocean aged” which d didn’t really add much.
As you can guess, you are going to get wildly differing opinions from this group :)
Michter’s is one of my favorites and I agree with OP that “ocean age” didn’t bring much to the table and tends to be about $25 more than Michter’s in my area.
I am a huge fan of Jeffersons. Have a single barrel small batch that I am currently going through. It's so smooth
That being said, I haven't tried Michters
Ocean. I like it but have never tried Michters. It also has a cool story where you can look up where it traveled. I have drank 5 bottles but never looked it up. FYI Costco Carrie’s it at a discount.
Ah thank you for the discount tip!
Neither unless you boss has made mention of wanting those bottles. Russel’s Reserve is a 10 year old under $40. Best value for the price point.
Will do, thanks VP1 and FM1, not positive about what he likes but I think higher proof probably wouldn't hurt from what little I do know about him.
Out of the two I prefer the michters. As others have said though I would suggest a russels reserve single barrel if you can find it, or a wild turkey rare breed or Kentucky spirit which should be available most places.
Between those two, I’d pick Jefferson’s. But how about Angel’s Envy. That’s some of the best around IMO. Especially their Rye.
