I don't know if I want to never practice law again but I just feel stuck I was on one legal career path until I got let go and had to reevaluate. Basically I had one trajectory in mind and I just got too burnt out / tired / let my immaturity get to me and really made it harder for me to proceed up that same path. I miss certain aspects about practicing law but also know that I dislike Law firm life. My current job is non-practicing and okay from a lifestyle perspective. I just feel stagnant

I have an asset purchase of a retail store transaction. Seller is keeping the second location. Seller is licensing the name from the buyer. The licensing agreement is supposed to contain provisions so that the seller cannot offer promotions or discounts that the buyer does not also offer (i.e., seller cannot undercut buyer's pricing). I am working on a project to built OKR and KPI software for performance prediction. The tool that helps companies track KPIs and predicts business performance using these KPIs. This does two things for the business 1) creates visibility around performance individuals, departments and business as a whole and 2) enables businesses to predict outcomes for the next month, quarter etc.

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Giving my notice this week. It’s going to seem very out of the blue as I am a first year associate. I’m leaving to go into a different career path completely. The people are great but I’m just looking for something different. Any advice?

I have been a practicing (patent prosecution) lawyer in different firms for about 20 years. I would love to do something more creative but still techie (computers, telecom, apps, etc.). I've always been interested in improving the software that practicing lawyers use (whether patent-specific or not). I am also kind of an academic at heart, but I live in a locale where professorial jobs are pretty limited and we're rooted here now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. I’d love to work in a law school setting as a counselor or something but I can’t afford the pay cut. *sigh* Does anyone feel like being a lawyer is just doing homework all day? Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm. However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?

What exit opportunities exist for international arbitration? I don’t want to litigate, and am a non-American so government jobs (which seem to be what my colleagues are exiting into) aren’t an option for me. I don’t ever see myself making partner (nor do I want to), and I feel totally stuck.

I often think I should look for another opportunity elsewhere but I don't know that any other firms would give me the potential for growth and experience that I am getting here. One of my junior associates recently resigned and I've been trying to make an exit myself for several months now. The job market has been really competitive but I am getting closer to getting a new job and moving on. The firm culture isn't great and work-life balance is non existent.
