Why not try to get into forensics at a big4? I’ve heard such negative things about audit. Everyone from audit is trying to get into forensic accounting…
Yes, I’ve had good experiences at two big 4s in forensics. Currently working investigations with government clients. I will say it probably does limit your exit opportunities because it’s such a niche skillset but there are still opportunities.
Please don’t do this.
I’m not really sure where you’re getting that information. Generally speaking, industry pays less than professional services firms these days. You give up pay, upward mobility, and partnership potential in exchange for (hopefully) better work life balance.
You can find roles in industry but true internal forensics roles are somewhat hard to come by since most of it is handled by outside experts. Even if you do find them, forensics work is generally too high stakes to be a consistent 9-5. Internal roles might be more chill in general but when something goes wrong, you’re still going to be expected to be the one to put out the fire. If your goal is less hours and more consistency you’re probably better off looking into internal audit, risk management, compliance, etc. which all hire from forensics. Or accounting, finance, or FP&A if you have the background/credentials
