should you give your trainer a Christmas gift ? I usually do - don’t need to spend a lot, but a nice gift certificate to a restaurant or fitness store or a bottle of a nice liquor.
Of the $150, your trainer is getting less than half.
And $150 is crazy high.
If you are getting value out of your training sessions and want to give a small gift. Otherwise don’t sweat it (pun intended)
Husband and I work out with a trainer together for past 5 weeks, and planing to gift him a $50 Visa card but that's mainly because he comes to our place to train us and we really appreciate all that he does. Don't feel obligated to give gifts to anyone who provides a service for a cost. And it's actually quite rude and awkward for the trainer to mention this and put pressure on his clients. Any chance you can change trainers?

What do you call male sugar babies?
No! That’s ridiculous Can you finish the training pack of sessions before Christmas? I just wouldn’t.
I would not give anything. That is crazy to pay $150 already
Why do you feel like you aren’t his client? Did you feel this way before his comments about Christmas?
I think it’s nice to give a gift to people you go to for services regularly when you’ve built a relationship with them, to show that you appreciate them and what they do for you, but it shouldn’t be expected and quite frankly the way that he’s saying that to his clients is really rude. I would ask to be assigned to a new trainer.
I’ve worked in fitness establishments for years and $150 sounds about right so I’m so surprised that people are saying it’s high! Granted it was appx $90-$125 a session depending on the level but that was 6 years ago…
But in response to your question I hate the way the trainer approached the topic and the fact that he even did so. Xmas tips from clients is a courtesy so bringing it up is tacky. My colleagues were actual trainers so I appreciate what they do, always, but I really don’t like what they said to you and the implications. Unless you are super impressed with their service I would personally switch them out for someone else.
