I have been working for the past 5 years as a training specialist and there hasn’t been an opportunity for a promotion/career advancement. The next step up is a training manager who is planning to retire from the role but not for years. I also have HR experience in benefits, leave, policy, etc. Should I apply as a training manager somewhere else or will I have more chances of career progression if I apply for more traditional HR roles?

So HR I've heard is having a down turn in open positions. Training/L&D also is such a weird sector because it's so different from company to company sometimes a training manager/specialist only facilitates, sometimes they are instructional designers, sometimes program managers, and sometimes they wear all the hats. What part of training do you like to do? I was on the LMS/operations side of things for a few years with a background doing content development before I landed a manager position. You might not land a manager position but before I was a manager I hopped around to 5 different companies in 3 years and was able to increase my salary drastically, which opened the door to a manager position.

Hey team! So I was laid off from my SDR position about a week ago. A couple months back, I had an offer for a BDR position that I ended up turning down but I really liked and connected with the manager. Is it worth it to reach out? I applied to other positions in the same company. What about reaching out to previous co workers at a different company? Not sure how to navigate this… please help. Also I’m sorry if this is the wrong bowl to post in.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

I am certified to pipeline (API 1104) code in dual processes (GMAW, SMAW) as well as an AWS CWI and a CPWI. Any advice/input is greatly appreciated!!

Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

What would you do in this situation?

I’m noticing that a lot of recent graduates at my job don’t know many basic computer skills (ie. Copy and paste short cuts or how to use the Microsoft Suite at all). Hi everyone, I have a question about job transition. I want to transition into sales training. I have 9 YOE in sales account mgt and created some really effective trainings my office used and loved. After that I got 2 yrs in curriculum development elsewhere.

I want to move into a sales training role that will take into consideration my sales experience? Don't want to start from scratch. What job titles should I be looking for?

Just wondering.. L&D Specialist salary and duties for others. Degree? No degree?

Looking for some advice…I’ve been told that transitioning to L&D should be “easy“ given my experience and skills (résumé posted for reference - note that I adapt it per position). I have tried applying for specialist to Director positions but I’m not having much luck. Any suggestions on position type and level that I should be focused on. (I have executive level exp. and cannot afford to start an entry-level position.)

Hi all! I have an opportunity to work for a tech company as a l&d specialist. They are quoting 70-75k. But I have 8 years experience. Does that seem like a fair number? Sounds low to me but I wanted to check.

Reposting from HR bowl: I’ve heard there is a hiring boom, especially for L&D roles. I was let go recently from a toxic environment (removed the company from everything) after only 4 days of work. I’m actively job searching but not receiving ideal hits. I see a lot of senior level L&D roles but not as many for specialist roles, specifically in tech. I have 5.5 years of experience. Any advice for me? I’m also seeking therapy for the trauma & coping, now ready for securing that next role!

Need some benchmarks: What would average/good survey results be for a leadership skills class (instructor-led)? We ask for the participant’s experience (did you like it, would you recommend, etc.), and also send an impact survey out 2 months later to their manager (have you seen positive behavior changes since training). Our experience survey is at 92% positive and impact to behaviors is at 83% positive. Anything I can compare to in order to share the story with leadership?

I'm planning a group session for one of Sr Leader Development programs. The theme is 'Lead like an Entrepreneur - Leaders take an owner’s mindset – doing what’s best for the enterprise and executing their roles like they own the business.

Does anyone know of any good virtual team building simulations? Forio won't work. We have a 2 hour max.

Open to group activities, personality assessments and bringing in an external speaker.

Hi there- I have a couple questions I’d love some insight on. What is a typical salary range for an associate dir or dir of learning & dev in NYC?

Total burnout in education and mental health fields. Could this be an obtainable entry point level/role given my career snapshot above? Thanks!

I applied for a Director Learning and Development (L&D) role at McKinsey about a month ago via a referral. About a week ago, my McKinsey employee (who referred me) received an automated email saying that I had moved to the pre-screening process of the recruitment process and that I'll hear from the recruiter shortly.

It's more than a week now and I haven't heard back. Can anyone shed light on the process -- what to expect, timelines, what is the interview process like, etc.

Thanks!

I applied for an L&D position with Deloitte about 2 months. It still says my application is in review. Any tips or suggestions? I tried reaching out on LinkedIn to a few people but haven’t heard back.
