Jeez people, why would you freak her out like that. How can you just say, "yeah you're getting fired"? Like another person said, it might just be a touch point after a long absence to confirm next steps and any other admin stuff you need to close out.
That's some bullshit. They shouldn't fire someone who just had a baby. Did it hurt heir conscience even a little?! You will be fine OP. Another opportunity will come. I'm sure you are a very skilled professional. Enjoy the new addition to the family.
But isn't it discriminatory if they do so after maternity??
Unless you were a poor performer before your maternity leave then you can and should sue

Pretty shitty. New parent right before the holidays. This is EY life. The other firms at least wait until January for layoffs. You were probably a target because you were out of the loop on current engagements.
I would totally talk to a lawyer. The firm is getting ruthless. Time to fight back. I've heard the firm settles all employment suits so you might be able to get something out of them.
Honestly this is why when people say you owe it to your team and your firm to do xyz I say screw that. Yes, be professional and don't burn bridges...but remember that your firm will cut ties with you quicker than you can blink if the going gets hard. I'm really sorry OP it's terrible timing!
I am so sorry OP. They did EY firing today in my office. Lesson learned that if you get an email to meet with HR, it means you are getting fired.
yeah cause HR never meets with anyone without firing them...
What the reason they gave? How much severance? Did you know any of the people?
