I left KPMG after 7 years after being passed over for Director promotion. I left to start a medical business. 3 months in, my partner and I grossed $130K in sales w/ a 60% margin. Consulting prepared us for this and I’m forever grateful for my experience. I’m honestly amazed at how well consulting skills translate to entrepreneurship. I’m sharing this to encourage anyone who’s been on the fence about starting their own thing. Go for it. Consulting will always be there if you need to fall back.

Would this be a bad time to switch positions for the purposes of career progression and higher compensation? My current position seems stable but no room for growth and also a disorganized mess, not a very mature legal department. On one hand I’m the only that knows what they’re doing on the other hand i would like to go somewhere where I can learn more how a mature legal department should operate within a legally savvy business. But seems like a risky move in this economic climate?

Any particular segment of sales good for ex-finance? Currently 3 years in at fortune 100 bank on business development side (on commercial loan originations team but no commission/targets at the associate level, basically do credit analysis and build pitch books for the producers) This role has been great as I have gotten both analytical experience and tasted sales experience (I say taste bc I’m not the producer) but would potentially like to transition to a sales role that is less analytical

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. Hello! I’m gearing up for my year end comp conversation and I’d like to be a better idea of what people are making to ask for a raise. I work for a large asset manager and sell alternative investments (PE, RE, Credit, Infra etc) to RIAs, family offices, and multi family offices.
