Fun game I play:
In addition to pounding espresso beforehand, I pretend everyone in the room can hear my thoughts, but doesn’t know I know.
Which means I can’t have my typical snarky internal commentary running. Lots of “wow that’s so interesting!” And “this seems like a really interesting project, I’d love to be apart of it and learn more.”
I find processing voluminous, technical, and multi-speaker verbal information to be very challenging for my brain. I try to avoid note taking assignments in these scenarios. Processing complex visual information (written info, numbers, images) is no problem, though.
It helps to type notes verbatim while listening. Also, I wonder if it would be permissible to use the speech-to-text function in Word? This doesn’t generate an audio recording, but a rough transcript.
There’s explicit guidance on using the audio recording feature, but we are permitted to use speech-to-text for Microsoft products like Word and OneNote. Check with your firm’s IT policy and talk to your partners about whether they have issues/concerns with using those features.
