What do senior associates in Chicago make?
Just signed the outside employment form in KPMG onboarding system. I actually wanted to start dabbling in creative writing as a potentially monetizable hobby, but I'm guessing this may pose issues.
Definitely interested in the "exception from this policy may be requested if provision of non-professional services doesn't interfere with one's duties of causes conflict of interest" clause, though. Has anyone been able to get one of those before?

I switched firms as a senior with the same expectation. Had to wait until the following cycle to be promoted to manager (ended up being 18 months instead of 6 to 12). I was furious and almost quit. I’m glad I didn’t. If I could take a time machine back to advise myself on this situation— and any other in my career— all I’d talk about is patience. This was years ago and I hadn’t thought of it in a long time until I read your post. You’ll be better prepared with more time under your belt to prepare for manager and when you’re my age you’ll never think about it.
Do you think any of the meets expectations ratings were red flags given you are trying to be promoted? I just think you’re not performing as good as you thought during interviews and they want to let you cook for another 6 months.
Came in as an S3 from another big 4 last August and got my promo to M1 this Summer… don’t think they’re dragging due to lack of Seniors

The 6-12 months is a hard play. You’d have to come in and tell all your reviewers what your expectation and role would be to have the required business case. The ‘meets expectations’ will be tough to go for Jan 1 promo—and the firm will be shorter seniors nov/dec based on traditional seasonality

I would ask if there is a business need for another manager in your group that you could fill? The further up you move the less people in that role at the firm and less hours per engagement for that level. I’ve seen plenty of people 100% ready for promotion but if there is not a need for another manager the firm is not going to promote you, pay you as a manager, while basically performing senior level work.
As mentioned above, often your jobs might not know you want to be promoted unless you’re super explicit with them even if your coach/hr are. To come in and get promoted within 6-12mths you really need a strong showing even if everyone is aware.
Same thing happening to me currently. Annoying but once promoted, shrug. Would base decision on how much you like your teams, work and feel respected?
I guess you are with EY since we just got our ratings and are getting raises soon. Just wait until Friday when it's communicated. But if they thought you should be promoted they would have. A manager can always act as a senior on an engagement. The expectations though are just always higher.
