GPs can write you a script, but lack expertise to help you find the right med and dosage.
Not true. Many GPs are able to advise in the same way that psychs can. finding the right med and dosage is largely trial and error anyway.
I would recommend seeking out a psychiatrist that has experience with ADHD. You will likely be meeting with your prescribing physician more frequently in the beginning, as you figure out the right dosage and combination of medications.
I believe GPs can do that. Also, look for a psychiatrists to get a second opinion, specially if you will be taking meds daily.
Where are you located and do you already have a diagnosis?
I’ve never been formally diagnosed. My parents didn’t believe in ADHD. 🫠
If you’ve never been diagnosed, you will need to get a diagnosis before you can get meds (get the report emailed to you afterwards so you can share it with doctors going forward). The process will vary based on the laws of your country/possibly state if you’re in the US so make sure you look up who is actually qualified to diagnose ADHD. If you’re in the UK, look into Right to Choose
