Insane. I will admit my age, proudly, until I’m literally, physically dragged out of the industry by two burly AI copywriters. Why? Because i still have the chops, experience and work ethic to run circles around most “young’uns”...stubborn? Maybe. But I’m not going peacefully...😁
I have. And I still 100% believe in the above.
The elephant in many of these rooms is that many people in the industry with this much experience are white men. You’re not going to find very many champions out there in journalism when there are more built-in audiences for stories about bias against women, minorities, and other intersectional identities .
Pretty sure people in the media have read it and don’t care...probably because most people on the media side who would care got laid off 7 years ago for being old and commanding too high of a salary.
I’ve seen a number of articles about it lately. Google “ageism in advertising." Also it is not a new problem- just seems to be getting worse.
The messed up thing about ageism is that it’s literally illegal. Yet nothing has been done about it.
Not sure were being asked to switch to pharma. Pharma is where the ad money is going nowadays. Look at all the pharma agencies that didn’t exist 20 years ago. Every major agency is adding pharma biz. And if you walk around a pharma agency, you’ll meet tons of young people that never had a general job. They started in pharma.
...for advice on all of the above
Send the scoop to and pull quotes for someone in the media who has covered this topic. It’s a great idea
It needs to be addressed. I mean we are the only industry where the ageism stats as young as 40. Right? Besides athletics?
And entertainment
How do we fix it? Should applications be double blind? No years, no in person, no video?
