I work at a fintech company and the constant "peopling" has left me feeling burnt out. I don't know how best to deal when I get like this. I've been in CS roles for about 14 years and don't know how to get out.

Just know your own limits. I'm an introvert so I know that I can only be at a social function for an hour or so before I'm drained

like

Advocate for yourself. When you've had enough then you have to go home or accept that you can't make it to everythign

like

What does "peopling" include exactly? Networking conferences? Or just socializing with colleagues?

like

C. All of the above!

Oh I feel this so much. I'm introverted and don't always feel like talking in the office so people think I'm rude or standoffish, but I just can't take the constant small talk

like

Exactly! It's a lot in the office, with other employees and customers. I'm tired and would love a job that requires less talking.

Have you considered recruiting or office management? These roles would still require some "peopling," but perhaps not as much as your current position...

helpful

Absolutely. Here's an article that also includes some resume suggestions: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/finding-a-job/transferable-customer-service-skills

Try to keep work in perspective as just work and make sure you’re taking care of yourself and treating yourself occasionally to manage your health and mental health. I’ve also been in the game for 15 years. It’s time to see what else is out there for me. Good luck!

Here to say, if bad things are heavier than any economic factors, then change. Your mental health is the most important thing.

I’m already wearing multiple hats when it comes to work. Does anyone have insight on how it works/what it’s like? Thanks in advance!

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

Having tough time deciding between IB & Consulting. My thought process: I have a "better" background for IB (TAS/valuation) and with tech layoffs, this might push more potential would-be tech applications to pursue consulting (there by increased competition)? Additionally, you can do IB intern and full time consulting but not vice versa. I prefer consulting, but IB seems like the "safer" option? And if consulting does get hit hard, I would hopefully have a full time IB offer via internship.
