I work at a large law firm, and paralegals are not assigned to a specific attorney. Instead, attorneys have the discretion to delegate work to a paralegal of their choice. Still, it is such a passive aggressive and toxic thing when an attorney that you have built a supposedly great rapport with suddenly stops delegating work to you in favor of another paralegal. No explanation or feedback was given—just radio silence. The only thing I can do is ignore it and improve my work product in some way.

Ignore it. Lawyers are the biggest game players. Rather than communicate with you, they decide to play games. Be glad they aren't giving you anything to do. F 'em

like

Ugh. Super rough when that happens. Sorry. Hope things turn around. Lawyers can be great at the law, but are not always great at managing staff.

like

Or theyre just toting their ego and messing with you because “they can”. Dont take it personal.

like

This. This is so frustrating and happens quite a bit. I know it’s not the work I do because I have 20 years’ experience and know my job well. As someone mentioned, lawyers are not the best at managing staff. I also don’t think they realize that delegating your work to other paralegals upsets the work flow and is a jab that raises too many questions in your mind.

like

Is there a way you could talk to the attorney? Perhaps he/she has some feedback. I agree, it is a very passive aggressive behavior and that just contributes to a toxic environment.

I had this before but tend to be the one that everyone wanted to work with as it led to burnout. I’m not the type to kiss butt but my work product was really good

We have he same situation and I am new to the firm. I have learned not to tell the other paralegals that I am busy. It may be they just want to test the waters with someone new or they hired someone with specific experience they need right now. That’s the case with me. There are other real estate paralegals but their specialty lies in formation and closings. Mine is in title and survey. They need that technical review more than they need help with docs and drafting. It’s been pretty slow for our first and second years so that work is going to them. Find a niche and you will stay busy.

How long is it sustainable to talk to someone without meeting in person due to covid? I find myself getting bored because the meeting in person is what determines whether we actually vibe.

Looking for some advice on a career change. I work in a technical role and have well-developed soft skills. I want to transition to UX (w/ focus on accessibility). There are a lot of UX educational programs out there, some very new, e.g. Dribbble, and costs are all over the place - General Assembly is $15k (and full-time), CareerFoundry almost $8k, and then many others at a fraction of the price. Reviews also vary wildly. Are these more expensive programs worth the huge increase in cost?
