All I can say is WOW. Pretty serious offense, regardless of magnitude. Not sure OP seems remorseful enough or has grasped the magnitude if s/he is asking about "if the firm will forget in a bit". Nuts.
HR makes a check for any prior violations. I've ensured that they are especially diligent as it appears there's someone trying to bluff their way into a rehire. I've reached out to a couple of colleagues in non-Partnership firms and alerted them to this. They're following up with their HR.
Someone got fired and now they're trying to falsify their way back in. Speaks to integrity, fidelity and voracity. I don't want someone with a compromised ethical compass in a firm that I'm an owner of. It's that simple.
Thanks for the call, P2 ;)
Whoa.. this thread exploded way more than I imagined.. I have fishbowl notifications turned off so I wasn't aware so many people were posting. I'm afraid I can't get into specifics, but I can confirm that all the 'unknown' expenses mentioned above by people (ie Starbucks reload, Thursday night meals, paying anyone just closely related like a friend to take you to airport) are all out of policy. I never meant to do anything that would hurt my relationship with the firm but like someone mentioned above, you don't get flagged or warned until much much later, so by the time years have passed you have probably racked up several thousand of those out of policy expenses. Wish the best to all and hope this helps.
It's not against IBM policy to expense travel miles on a personal vehicle.
You can expense your friends miles and pay them from there. 💯
That's crazy. Usually I know how approx. much my americano and sandwich costs and yes I'm a points whore, so I reload my card with that amount and use it to pay for my breakfast at the register 😯. And I thought Thursday dinners were allowed if you get home after 10/11pm?
If those are the reasons why OP was fired, I'm probably fucked and should quit while I'm ahead...
Thanks for the info guys, it's on the higher side of the violation spectrum so I assume I'll be blacklisted :( anyone know about how that'll transfer to applying to other firms?
It's black and white @EY6
$15 Breakfast
They aren't going to cross reference time to validate your meal occurred at 9 am on the dot lol
Did OP's firm do more than fire him 😳
Maybe OP was "laid off" from the thread too.
Wait can you seriously not pay a friend to drive you to the airport? I expensed paying my roommate $10 to drive me/pick up as opposed to paying $20+ for Uber or cab. I don't wanna risk getting fired over that though what should I do?
Jeez- these cowboy partners now got me thinking twice about posting here. What happened to fishbowl being a safe zone. May be they shouldn't let certain people in.
P7-b/c they're SBX points whores. The correct answer is just use the SBX card/app and enter each transaction as a cash transaction.
OP is as vacant as his former desk
I feel like OP's issue is much bigger than just out-of-policy expenses. whomever you worked for OP was just using ur expense as an excuse.
Exactly. I agree.
I've got this vision of OP as a new consultant getting told "we want to take care of our people, across your entire life"... and then expensing their groceries for the next 5 years because they weren't explicitly told not to....
You guys know the conspiracy theory that fishbowl is just an HR tool? I don't think it's true but if it is, a whole lot of you just copped to expense violations lol.
@D22 got called by a junior expense auditor inquiring about the charges.. told em the story and explanation; didn't hear back for a week or two.. then got called by a SM expense auditor for a meeting at the office on Friday. Explained again but was told it was out of policy so I'd have to pay it back, to which I accepted. Then was let go
Btw, not proud of my violation .. it was a fool mistake that I will clearly never make again.. but what's done is done
When called for a reference, most firms will state your name, title, and if you are eligible for rehire. It's up to you as to how you want to handle the explanation.
@ey10 stop peddling fake news
the suspense is killing me
