I never have. If they ask why I left, I say it wasn't a great fit or something. I don't offer those CDs as references. Maybe it'll come out through mutual connections, but what else am I supposed to do? Just let one bad work experience torpedo every future chance at a job? I gotta pay rent.

Depends why you left. You can usually say “it wasn’t the right fit” - the former employer can say very fewer things in a reference check other than dates of employment and title.
Pro
It depends. I probably wouldn’t offer it up willingly (unless it was a great story) but depending on the circumstances it may come out anyway (and that could be worse).
Why were you fired?
If it does come up, though, you can use it as a pivot point to explain why culture & the relationships you have with those you work with are so important and explain it as a mutual feeling of not being the best fit.
I’m p sure either Wieden or Kennedy got fired before starting starting their agency. You could always spin it as a positive learning experience.
Yeah I say not a good fit. It happens. Yeah it kinda hurts a bit but I'll make my own evaluation of you. It's far from a deal breaker.
