It depends. If other people had the ability to WFH but I didn't for some reason, I would. But if company policy was everyone is supposed to be in office 5x/week, I wouldn't bother. Even if it seems silly to have to commute just to sit in my office, I doubt they'd be willing to make an exception for me and would worry that asking would be looked upon poorly.

It would still be worth the ask because productivity would likely be worse sitting in an empty officw
I think I would ask and make my case for it. Might as well you know. I really am kind of baffled at how many companies didn’t jump on and keep remote work for those that could. They have to be saving tons with building, electricity, all those costs.
Pro
Savings on overhead are massive but unfortunately some companies have long term leases that would still have them paying a lot for empty space.
If I was working in isolation in an office, then sure, I'd just as soon be working remotely. The advantage of being in an office is to learn from coworkers. And there's a camaraderie that can form. But if that's absent, there's no point in showing up for no reason.

I completely agree!
I would definitely make the case for it as well!
To me making people work in an office when there is no need/no one else around is a form of mental abuse.
Hear me out, there is no real benefit to you being there but simply to only assert control and remind you that you are not autonomous because in fact you need that money to live and will do whatever they say to keep that life line.

Bringing up benefits to both you and the employer help the case
Something tells me you aren’t as isolated as you’re trying to make people believe…
If “no one is around“ what’s stopping you from just WFH anyways? Or are there actually people around and you just want to stay home?

Policy. And this is a hypothetical… asking for a friend haha

That's exactly why I transferred to a WFH job. Nobody around me was in the office.

It’s sad that you had to transfer to get a WFH job
Yes
Most likely
I mean if there is no reason for you to have to be in the office then I definitely would. And if there is nobody around you then I don't see a reason you shouldn't be working from home to bein with.
