Anything is possible but having that SEC audit experience on your resume is very helpful if you want to do reporting at a public company.
100% - the people I know who left PA for financial reporting roles enjoy their jobs the most right now. They still have challenging work, less hours, higher pay, and room for upward with the early exit. I would take that exit if I wasn't trying to stay a little longer for a CFO exit opportunity.
It depends what companies you want to work for. Will be difficult to get a good role in a public company without that experience. But no reason you couldn’t get a good role in a private company similar in size and make up as the companies you audited.
