I'm a Canadian with a Batchelor degree in accounting.
I want to get a job in the US and follow that by getting an American CPA.
Anyone have advice on how I can make it happen?
I'm also going back to school in September to learn visual basic, SQL and other accounting analytical tools.

You’ll need to find an accounting job who will hire you and help you get your TN visa. Thankfully getting a TN visa isn’t too difficult from an immigration standpoint point but there’s a lot of paperwork. If a future employer is large enough they’ll have an immigration law firm to work with you and the employer to get all the paperwork done.

Best bet is to start applying and networking with large companies in the US who are hiring for something that you’re qualified for.

my first job in the us the firm hired a lawyer for 2k to do my tn visa app

my second visa, after i understood the process, i just tossed together myself

probably takes a couple hours if you know what you’re doing, a bit longer if you’re trying to research how to do it. there are very clear requirements on the website.

if you’re competent enough to do your own taxes, you’re probably fine.

Yes tn visa isnt a big deal you can the contract and google and make your case at the border

I think the big issue is, realizing I'm not worth a company's hastle in getting me a letter of support.
A job offer is easy if I don't tell them about the TN status but if I were to mention it they wouldn't bother.

They'd rather higher someone domestic to the US. A bachelor's in accounting is a dime a dozen.

When I got my offer (big4) they def prepped the TN visa package for me and included an offer letter that met the requirements etc. Not saying you couldn’t do it on your own, but if a firm is hiring you, they’ll be familiar with the requirements and have a process. It’s much harder to find a firm that will sponsor your H1-B or perm now tho.

Do you have any US GAAP experience or US tax? If not, I think you’ll have a harder time getting a firm to hire you, unless you’re planning to work on cross-boarder industry or Canadian tax desk kind of work.

like

You could try for an L visa! If you’re “manager” or meet the requirements they can transfer you to the US on an L and avoid H1-B etc but I don’t know if you can stay permanently on an L or if it’s a non-immigrant visa like a TN and to stay you’d eventually have to transfer status to something else.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

I am in the process of finding administrative assistant interns from our local universities. In an effort to make my job opportunity appealing, I am asking everyone in this bowl about an appropriate job title. Is "Administrative Assistant" outdated or unappealing? I certainly don't want to mislead anyone on the job responsibilities, but I do want to avoid any potential negative stereotypes attached to that job title. Are there alternative titles that you find more appropriate for 2022?
