I’m debating on pivoting careers. If I took time off to study and pass give/take 5 admin and dev related certifications do you think I could land a job on that alone? Or would I be wasting my time? Currently based out of NY and only experience is in auditing. Not satisfied with my job and have been seeing a lot of posts on Salesforce recently.

Better would be, take a sabbatical and do that. Meanwhile, talk to internal teams who does SF work. That way they can transfer you internally. After working for few months, make a shift.

Everyone wants salesforce people but a very few wants to hire someone and spend money on training them.

like

See if you can get on a salesforce project, may be as a BA or something. Will provide you with some experience while you pursue your certs. Network with the salesforce practice.

You've made a great first step which is wanting the switch!

Imo certs have been slowly losing the value it's used to have with just the 1.) sheer number of cert'd people coming onto the community and 2.) how relatively easy it is to get them. I suggest still getting them, but after getting your admin cert, try to find a non-profit to serve pro-bono. Even if it's 5 hrs a week, experience speaks much louder for Salesforce roles. I've used Catchafire and Taproot to find my first couple clients - would recommend to you as well.

Once you have that experience, it's just a matter of networking again to find a place to take on an admin role and scaling up from there.

Would also suggest checking out Salesforce for Everyone. He has some incredible resources for people trying to transition. Also has a great template for starting your own consultancy for brand new admins, and it seems to work for many.

This is basically the method I used to get my offers straight out of undergrad - fwiw, I was also an accounting major myself.

Best of luck, and lmk if I can help you in any way.

Really appreciate the response. I’ll definitely look into those resources and see if I can benefit from them.

If you are planning to switch career then absolutely no waste of time. Use trailhead and other dev community website to plan your time and effort well. All the best!

Build up a portfolio using a dev org as you prep for your certs. This will give you some hands on experience plus something to show people to sell your skills. As A1 mentioned, too many people with certs these days, specially admin.

You can get your own developer org to practice and build things. https://developer.salesforce.com/signup

The link will help you get your hand on one. I had someone build out various features in a dev org and a community which they shared with me and others to showcase their skills. They were also looking to transition to Salesforce. I was impressed.

I am getting an offer from Nagarro as associate staff engineer.

My current CTC is 20,

Intiatially they told they are considering me for staff engineer role but after interview they are offering associate staff engineer. Is it worth to join?
