I'm going to interview for a Benefits Consultant job with Aflac in Florida. Is this a commissioned only position or is it a salary plus commission position?

Commission only. If this isn’t a problem for you, just make sure you talk to the recruiter and/or/both RSC (Regional Sales Coordinator) how commission is calculated and what you need to do to be successful.

like

It's a tough living. Tough, All commission.

like

I'm going to jump on and agree that commission only is very tough. You have to really budget, and you have to be on top of your game all the time. Even then, when you think you're doing great, the deals can fall through at any time and leave you with very little.

like

They used to be straight commission, I’m assuming it’s still the same structure

like

You’re an independent contractor, not an employee. You’re running your own business representing Aflac. The compensation can be very lucrative if you work hard. It’s only 100% commission the first year because your renewals kick in once any policies you wrote hit 13 months. So, for example, in year 2, you’re earning renewal income on everything you wrote during year 1, and it keeps growing if you consistently write business. Aflac pays renewal income for life even if you are no longer appointed so you can literally create an income forever.

The cancer policy is the best product they offer and it tends to stay on the books for years. Also, you’re not a captive agent with Aflac so you’ll eventually get appointed by other life insurance carriers because Aflac’s life product is awful on its best day. It’s expensive, they only offer whole and term and they don’t offer living benefits. So when you’re at an enrollment, you’re going to find yourself talking to employees about life insurance when they ask you but you’ll end up selling them life with another carrier because you’ll know the product is better. You’ll start to have multiple streams of income. You need to be calling on businesses all day long to make money. You have to put the activity in or you won’t make any money. Aflac is a long term thing it’s not a “job” to collect a paycheck. If you’re going into it thinking it’s a job it’s not going to work.

like

It’s two sales really - you sell to companies to offer AFLAC to their employees through payroll deduction , and then once you’ve landed the account, you sell products to the employees for commission

like

This is an excellent company with a big name and very well-known with a major presence in Wall Street, Fortune 100 company. The downside is that it is just another AMWAY or another HERBALIFE another MLM company. They love to recruit innocent, brad new agents in the business and suck up their circle of friends and family who buy just to help you in your career. The commissions are really low because you have to share the commissions with the guys above you in the pyramid skim. When you are done taking them to the few friends and family you have and you make your first sales, they do not help you much because They are looking for the next victim. My advice is to sell other products with other companies such as United and Humana who sell Medicare and ACA and Life Insurance. and the commissions are way better. Be a Broker yourself, sell whatever the business owners want you to find for them. Do not be a victim of these sharks!!!

like

Hi Fishes, Y.O.E 7.5+ years. Tata Consultancy TCS is offering 25LPA including variable pay and everything. So just 15% increment on my current salary since they mentioned I am leaving my current organization within 1 year.

They mentioned 8-12% is VP plus 80k from that salary is paid at the end of each year. Is it a good enough salary for 7.5+ yoe candidate. Also any heads up for the things I should look out for will be really helpful.

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…
