I’m immeasurably happier on a day to day basis than I was in my army days (11b). But from time to time, I really miss the suck and the brotherhood

Totally normal experience. Going from a mission-driven job to largely pointless white collar work is great for personal autonomy, compensation, and quality of life, but you don’t get that overall feeling of purpose and satisfaction.

I am with Senior Manager 1 above, that is a totally normal experience to have and I completely understand it. I often feel the same way and my job just doesn't give me that same sense of pride that being in the military did.

I’m thinking of pivoting to teaching once the kids are out the house and I don’t need corporate salary anymore. Teach and guide high schoolers and give them better advice than I got when I was in. Not glamorous and being a female dominant industry, the pay will suck, but at least my work creates meaningful change and provides purpose other than ‘lol stock line go up, shareholders happy’

It’s so soul sucking creating shareholder value for rich people. I’m so glad at least some of my life was doing cool stuff in .mil

Why do we always tell people “Be the best version of yourself before starting a relationship?”
I feel this is wrong…first, if you’re someone who constantly wants to be better, this doesn’t work. Also, what happens when you’re going through things and you’re not the best version? What happens is…the going gets tough and then one person leaves the other.

I’m just kinda feeling lost, a bit like a failure , and maybe tired . I’m 30 f, single, moved to a new town, studying for the cpa, had falling out with the first two friends I made in new town, deeply missing my friends from back home, work has been a lot - job hopping . The partner was so excited and quick to give me an offer. I feel like I’m 💯 at this point just disappointing him. Idk what advice someone could give me , but has anyone else gone through “just surviving period”

When did you know your firm wasn't right for you? I'm not sure if it's just the stress of being a new attorney with a family or if my job isn't the right fit. I work in civil litigation and am consistently below my billables. I can't stay late because my kids need me and I can't work on the weekends because I have to maintain my house and take care of my kids. I'm being constantly told to work harder, stay later, etc but it's not practical. Or am I not approaching this with the right mindset?

FML. I’ve been dating someone for 8 months and have been having doubts about the longevity of the relationship. This week he tells me he is thinking about leaving our city and working remotely. Even though I was already thinking about ending it, this hurts. I know I’m being childish - being rejected by someone who I was planning to reject! And I know he isn’t the right guy for me in the long term. So why does this hurt?! 😭😭😭
