PwC has provisionally cleared me to join the firm first week of Jan. What does this mean? Can I start working with them even if the background check is still running in parallel? Can I quit my current job and expect everything to be cool? They said it's taking them longer to verify education and previous employment. Both of which are international.

My guess is that your problem isn't being in tech sales, it's working for a startup. They're known for that toxic "grind all the time" culture. You might think about finding a job at a more ordinary company. You may take a pay cut, but you'll be able to see your family.

The toxic culture of grind all the time seems to be everywhere. It’s hard to avoid in sales since most reps want the big commission check. I agree with you, take a pay cut and go see your family. There will be time to make money in the future.
Simply put… Yes, it is
It's mainly a culture issue. Sounds like there's poor leadership at the company.
I've worked both startups and big tech. WLB has been a bit back and forth, but overall fine. You can also easily make $250k comp in sales at a big tech company without having to be on 24/7.

Working for a startup is the first issue. Most startups are chasing growth and that comes with barely being home. It may be a grow now and have more time later kind of mindset that I’ve been a part of before. If it stays that way long term, then it’s not a good sustainable life. If you can’t stick with that now, it’s time to move on because who knows how long they’ll be in this situation.
