“This too shall pass. "
“Yeah, like a kidney stone."
Industry friend: “OK dude, see you later. I’ll call you.”
Seriously, do you not get you’re being a dickbag by talking about your own problems while not caring / minimizing a friends? Every job sucks in its own way. People who complain more about their own job than they listen just plain suck.
Can confirm. Recently moved to industry. Work measured in “impact”. Jury’s still out on whether this ambiguity is better or worse...
(Though tbh depends on industry/position)
Honestly - as much as I have gripes about our performance review process I feel like we are pretty well set up about performance and advancement. I talk to friends in industry and if they’re in a small company especially there’s no real clear evaluation rubric.
Performance evaluation and promotion process is a lot more visible to us than it is in industry.
This is consulting, you are a billable resource. WTF did you expect ?
I worked in industry before bschool / consulting, grass is greener in industry albeit less lucrative
Industry still has metrics and still has the same politics and bureaucratic BS that consulting does- sometimes worse. Just have to find what you can live with.
I worked in industry before. It’s awesome not having utilization targets IF you are smart about what department you are in
Exactly what SA1 said. Industry is easier to manage from a work life balance POV but if you’re not in a progressive department or company, you will become stagnant fast
Yup. They call me Boomerang
@D3 what’s your new role?
Wait industry doest have a utilisation target?
No utilization but there are metrics and more subjective ratings at times.
SM knows what I’m talking about 😀
Just moved to industry. Out of the office every day by 530 usually 5. Usually only travel 1 night per week. Lateral salary and similar bonus structure to consulting plus equity.
No utilization. Just need to make sure to build a solid relationship with your direct leader and deliver good work products. Life on the other side is so easy after being in consulting it should be illegal. Build my first ppt deck after 2 weeks on the job to discuss my observations of the companies and potential areas for improvement since I lead a large section and everyone was blown away with the presentation 😂. I thought the deck was good at best but certainly not great
In my new role, I’m at an early stage tech/product company and lead the delivery of our portfolio of projects to our clients.
