Hello! How did you get started with excel as an HR professional? What are some good resources for me to develop my excel skills (courses, certifications, etc)? People often say YouTube but as a hands on learner I’d like something more interactive that will test me.

I’m seriously contemplating taking a software development boot camp. For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I noticed the universities are a bit more expensive but is it worth the price to have a university on your resume or does it not really matter?

Why did you pick accounting as a major? I picked it because it was a safe choice and I just wanted a decent job after college.

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m a Senior Project Manager at an engineering consulting firm - I don’t have my PE as of yet and my compensation is $100k + bonus. Just a bit of background, at my firm a Senior PM is someone with 8+ years exp. I have 10 years experience and on track to making Principal in a couple of months. This responsibility was not originally in my job description. Additionally I am the only one with my job title being required to do this. How soon is too soon to start looking and applying to jobs after accepting a position?

Context:

I recently accepted a position at the company and have been working as a temp for the past 3 months. I really enjoy the people I work with and the company seems to really support its employees, however it is in a field that doesnt exactly align with what I would like to be doing. And unfortunately the compensation package is also lacking.

I’d to get a job in a small architecture firm or work for a developer to help build up my network. For the past 6 years I’ve taught high school architecture and engineering and done real estate on the side. I have an industrial design degree and tremendous construction and real estate sales knowledge. I also started architecture school but stupidly switched to industrial design. I don’t want to go back to school for architecture. Ultimately, I want to own my own company developing real estate.
