Does it matter who is “at fault”? Success in consulting depends on part on being deployed. While having specialized skills and knowledge is great, it can be challenging to also be “plug and playable”. Is there an adjacent skill set that you can leverage? Or any way to expand what you do? Internal network helps tremendously as well. Good luck!
Trying to transfer to more relevant department 👍
At KPMG and PwC they probably won’t hire you for a single/specific project intending to lay you off as KPMG has Assignment Select and PwC has TalentExchange for those purposes.
More likely is you are hired into a specialized group and if they are experiencing an empty pipeline you could be cut.
What makes you think you’re in jeopardy though? The fact that you’re insistent on retraining or transferring and they won’t let you sounds like they need you in the practice
What is your niche
not selling your capabilities?
They could have tried to place you in projects requiring similar skill set or help give you some training to position you for other types of projects.
Is the firm in question KPMG?
They think im too niche and refuse to put me in retraining for other skills even though im capable. Time to jump ship before I get offed?
Same at Deloitte, project delivery model is for specialized skills and specific projects, this would be abnormal... would ask more questions to understand broader circumstances
