It depends. They were much more meaningful 10 years ago (I got mine in 2010) and PMI has been trying to stay relevant. In the last few years I’ve rarely seen PMP certifications come up as a necessary skill set for staffing PMs. It doesn’t hurt, but they used to be much more important.
If you’re managing software development projects PMP is less valuable, I’d recommend an Agile cert or even better a software one, like Salesforce Admin.
I’ve thought about this over the past 6 months. If the plan is to stay in Fed work, I think it will be a worthwhile cert as more and more keys have that requirement to be bid. I don’t think it will be a negative on our resume if we don’t have it, but I’d expect that to be role dependent where the equivalent would be Agile or Scrum certs.
No. PMP is waterfall. Try googling WBS and all you will find is Kanban boards. SaFe or ITIL is a better investment.
Yes
If your company will pay, yes.
Yeah
I don’t have a PMP but I feel like they’re super outdated. I would consider PMP a pretty “neutral” certification — neither good nor bad.
No they are no longer the “it” very. Everything is moving to LSS.
In the federal space, PMP pays dividends when it comes to qualifying for certain positions.
