I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Interested? Probably. In you? Most likely not.
I was at KPMG audit before, I can guarantee that they don’t only recruit top schools for deals.
I can honestly say being a former big 4 intern means nothing unless you actually worked as a staff.. Interns get coffee and write the rep letter I won’t need for 5 months
So are you still in school or working full time now? Recruiting season has passed and from what I heard from our deal recruiters, there weren’t any open associate positions to begin with.
My advice for you would be to network as much as possible. I would say it’s difficult to come in as an associate if you’re not a campus hire since that’s all I see but still try if you really want it. You could get your Masters in Accounting and be a campus hire that way.
Haha no
Are pickings that slim now?
We have hired 5 this year so far in our office
I think we are full for this year
Associate probably not because of campus hires. What do you mean big 4 intern?? Have you not worked since the internship?
I see. I’ve honestly never seen any associate hires besides campus or MBA hires. Research what you actually want to do in deal since there are many service offerings then look for job postings and network with people (LinkedIn) for the offices you are interested in.
