A consultant is one you pay to borrow your watch and tell you what time it is.
I don’t think a lot of people know much about it or respect it, but idc from my seat in first class and my bank account

Try explaining management consulting to your family at thanksgiving
D2 - lolol, no seriously. Some days I feel like consulting is great and exciting.. Other days I feel like I wish my job was done once I closed my laptop after A 12 hr day
In most countries people don't even know what a consultant does.
That’s true though
It used to be. Now the clients hate us and the partner just wants his bonus at any expense necessary.

Welcome to any role in a capitalist society. It used to be respectable to just be a hard working citizen, paying taxes. . . now everything is about how to line the C-Suite pockets and squeeze consumers for as much as they can, while providing as little as possible.
Management consulting is an advantageous way for businesses to solve their issues without having to hire full time employees - don’t think it is any more or less valued then it has ever been. At its core it’s been the same thing always
Also for executives to put blame on someone else.
The industries respect and prestige is in a fairly significant decline.
When did this decline begin in your opinion?

I don’t respect any professional careers in the business world. We create little to no value for the public.
Teachers, Doctors, Nurses, Firefighters, LEO (debatable), Bus and Train Drivers, Janitors. . . drive much more value for the average person day-to-day.
So no, I don’t really respect this career. It’s mostly a circle j of pompous T-20 graduates living only through academic and professional validation to make sense of their existence.
I told my grandma I'm a cloud consultant, and she handed me her iPhone to troubleshoot an iCloud issue. I hope that answers your question.
Sounds like OP had a bad experience. May be start with sharing your story first.
haha I still see some younger millennials struggle. But the weigh is shifting to Gen Z, cycle repeats. No patience and instant gratification is the root of the problem.
If you have to ask, then you already have formed your opinion so why bother us with this question?
Contractors vs consultants i provided is how the client side define it.
Nope. Our clients stopped taking us seriously a couple years ago when they realized they can, in fact, do comparable work on their own with comparable outcomes.
You guys have competent clients? That’s wild.
Define “respected”? And respected by who?
How are you using the word “define?”
I would say it is. You learn a lot in a short period of time that sets you up for the long-term. Even as a junior practitioner, you can get significant leadership opportunities that future employers like to see. Consulting can help you become a strong critical thinker in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
It’s a great way to start or conclude your career. What happens in between isn’t worth it in my view.
No. Sorry you were lied to.
I think so
No, but it pays well.
Depends on where you work.
Yeah

Respected by who? More than 90% of America doesn’t care about consulting. As long as you have a decent living, who cares what anyone does.
