Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

OP, you just found out day of deliverable deadline that your analyst didn't do the work? sounds like you missed a chapter.
Ok take a breathe. Go into coach mode
An analyst who didn't do any of the work they were assigned to submit to the client today
Why would a analyst be sending the deliverable straight to the client.
Analyst needs to get crushed...not fired but that person should have his year crushed
I kept checking in, asking to see it, so they need help? Last minute end of the day I ask where it is they give me an oh shit look. An hour later they say it's delivered to the client. It has the wrong date all over it. Wrong information in it. They sent it to the client without CC'ing me. I'm just so over it.
Feelings too. Crush the feelings... bonus points for crying
Learning moment for you, teachable moment for analyst. You need me to provide tough but fair feedback immediately, 1 on 1. Meeting deadlines in paramount. Providing docs to manager in advance is a prerequisite. Analyst needs to understand this isn't college where he/she can procrastinate then wing it at last minute (or struggle silently without admitting he/she is over their head).
For your part, you need to be very clear next time with this person (and in general) when something is due to you, and be prepared to take it on yourself or reassign it if Analyst drops the ball again.
Happens once, shame on them, twice, shame on you.
omg OP. no more Mr/Miss Nice Guy. you have to rein it in. I'm sorry to hear that. hopefully you have a great relationship with your client and could get a do over
Kk, good advice. Praise publicly, constructive feedback privately. Do not demoralize or embarrass, do be very clear about expectations.
They shouldn't be!
It happens. Next time make sure you see it in advance of when it's due.
OP, everything about your analyst behavior is completely unacceptable. I am pissed off for you.
Fired analyst I hope?
Yeah this happens to me too. We let our associates have too much lee way and this happens. I've instituted a strict everything goes through me policy. I make sure to give the youngins internal praise and praise in front of a client when they get it right, but it's hard to just say so without watching every step. Send a long email detailing everything that was wrong with the deliverable and tell them to fix it tonight. Tough love
I hear ya OP. My team has been a hit or miss. I've honestly just narrowed it down to the fact that my friendliness and flexibility is directly proportional to shitty work...
Yeah the bigger problem is having shitty people who don't do their work. You can be the best manager but you need half decent people first....
You can set their deadlines couple hours in advance to leave yourself time to take a look and even a do over if the analyst is very new.
Well handled, OP. If the analyst demonstrates that he/she can be trusted, then you can loosen the reigns, and not before! If micromanagement is required for a lengthy period, then the analyst should consider other career paths.
