I’m a Christian. I believe in God
I’ve been married for 28 years, this year, in October.
I have 5 adult children.
I have 8 grandchildren.
I have 15 years in the Army.
I’ve been working in the security and safety industry for 35 years.
I’m a well rounded individual with a plethora of life experience.

Anyone else stuck here without family? I'm in SF and my roommates are going home to their families tonight and i'm going to be alone, it's going to be a long 3 weeks..... 😭😭😭

I love my SO but get unsure....they just went on a friends trip and came back and randomly said going on another one in two weeks. I said I wanted to spend time together so they came back next morning and said let's go away just us instead, which is awesome and I am happy BUT is it a red flag? They used to always be all about spending time together and now seems like I have to remind them to put us first in the past month. We both work hard and have kids so life is more complicated. Vent over.

My 64 y/o mom is really struggling with her mental health and refuses to acknowledge it or take action. She is already difficult to have a relationship with, toxic, always shaming, blaming, dismissive and refuses to have important conversations.
6 years ago her husband/my step dad was killed suddenly and tragically. He had a man cave room that she has not touched since. It is beyond filthy, unsanitary and poor living conditions.

If I make attempts to clean, she has a meltdown. How to fix?

Getting over heartbreak and having a full time job is torture lol. My boyfriend and I just broke up after almost a year of being together. My SO adds very little to our relationship. She has a dead end job. I cook. I work. I oversee finances. I plan trips. She doesn’t have a voice in the relationship. I’ve asked her to give her perspective but she always defaults to mine bc she thinks I’m smarter/worldly. She feels intimated by me and my social circle. Lately, I’ve found myself thinking for her. Anticipating her wants and needs and then adjusting my behavior to meet them. Which she appreciates but it’s frustrating 29M 27F

Trying to set family expectations and would love thoughts on 2 things. 1. How long after baby will I be ready for visitors beyond our parents? I’m thinking a few weeks. 2. Our 3 grandmothers are 1-3 hour flights away (3 diff places) and cannot travel. When will we be ready to take baby to see them? I’m thinking 4-6 months but that would also be flu/RSV season. Can’t predict the future but family is already talking about trips and I want to set expectations and do what is best for baby. TIA!!

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.

For parents with school-age kiddos (kindergarten up), what do you do for childcare? Thinking about giving up our nanny, but worried about juggling days off, sick days, and summer break.

I work in a self contained classroom. A parent of one of my kids wants to come and volunteer after learning all my staff quit. Can I allow her to do this? Admin has no idea and I'm not sure with FERPA laws.. advice, suggestions? What can I have her do if she can come?

Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind. I am a proposal manager for federal consulting company. My base is low (112000) but I make up upto 50-70% of my base income with win bonuses. But I get the bonus only after the completion of one year of the base period of the contract. My question is -is this arrangement good or should I negotiate for higher base instead ?

I just became a commander. I've always been a good soldier, but it's my turn to lead. I hope I do a good job. Any words of encouragement?

Take victories and defeats as equals! Nothing will teach young soldiers more than making mistakes in the heat of battle that almost cost you your life. If you're still breathing, there's something to learn. Listen to it.

Do you ever regret pursuing the life of a soldier?

I always have faith that everything will make sense, and we will move into a better era. Sometimes it's challenging to maintain that faith, but it's always there.

For those that have been in awhile and looking closely at retirement. Are you switching careers or if you did how did it go? What advice would you give someone four years out from retirement?

Am I the only one who fears a third world war is among us? I've been studying the circumstances that led to WW1 and WW2, and let me tell you, we're not as far as they were. I hope the better judgment of people avoids such a catastrophic outcome.

We as the armed forces of the United States have a research department, but the greatest advances at the armament level come from private sectors, this could not be something counterproductive because if they sell a product to us, what deprives them of selling it to other countries?

Many movies romanticize the sacrifice of one soldier and leave them as a hero, but I have always thought that I hate that. Why would someone need to lose his life to be a hero? I believe the mere fact that we put our life at risk in service is enough to be a hero

What was your primary reason for joining the military?

My advice: Concentrate on yourself above anything else, follow orders but also know how those orders affect you, serve your country but never forget you are serving yourself first. The objective is not to die honorably but to survive dutifully. What else would you add?

There is a certain air of respect you get when you become a military professional. As long as you earn that respect, of course. But I like it, it feels good!

Does anyone else feel like they have become too utilitarian and objective?

Getting into the military helped my feeling of abandonment due to my father's absence. It sounds funny, but being in the military showed me another type of parenthood that I needed.
