Job Hunt

I’ve been going about this the wrong way since day one.
I was honoring myself. I was putting myself first.
Let me be transparent with you all.
I’m a Christian. I believe in God
I’ve been married for 28 years, this year, in October.
I have 5 adult children.
I have 8 grandchildren.
I have 15 years in the Army.
I’ve been working in the security and safety industry for 35 years.
I’m a well rounded individual with a plethora of life experience.

When you say you've been going about it the wrong way, what do you mean? Sounds like you've put in a lot of time and have a lot of experience in the field. I would reach out to all of your prior contacts to try and get referrals from someone you know

Sounds like you've had an interesting life and you surely have a lot of transferrable skills. So I'm not sure what you could be doing wrong in a job hunt. So far as putting yourself first, when looking for work that's just part of it. You need to put yourself first and compete for the job. Once you're making a living, then you can fully consider your duty to others.

what makes it a wrong way? Being a responsible man with 5 adult children and 8 grandchildren is quite a mark. A plethora of experiences leaves a plethora of referees to authenticate those experiences as well as on-the-job performance. Against these on must tread carefully.

How do you explain that you have been going about this wrong way? Would you like to please guide us being veteran too

What are the perfect jobs for me as a retired army colonel with 21 year experience

I love my SO but get unsure....they just went on a friends trip and came back and randomly said going on another one in two weeks. I said I wanted to spend time together so they came back next morning and said let's go away just us instead, which is awesome and I am happy BUT is it a red flag? They used to always be all about spending time together and now seems like I have to remind them to put us first in the past month. We both work hard and have kids so life is more complicated. Vent over.

My 64 y/o mom is really struggling with her mental health and refuses to acknowledge it or take action. She is already difficult to have a relationship with, toxic, always shaming, blaming, dismissive and refuses to have important conversations.
6 years ago her husband/my step dad was killed suddenly and tragically. He had a man cave room that she has not touched since. It is beyond filthy, unsanitary and poor living conditions.

If I make attempts to clean, she has a meltdown. How to fix?

Getting over heartbreak and having a full time job is torture lol. My boyfriend and I just broke up after almost a year of being together. It was such a beautiful relationship but ultimately he just didn’t love me. I love him so much. My mind knows that I deserve reciprocal love and I’m worthy, but I feel physically ill. My body hurts, my stomach is in knots, my head hurts. How is it that I have to mend a broken heart but also meet my billable hours lmao

My SO adds very little to our relationship. She has a dead end job. I cook. I work. I oversee finances. I plan trips. She doesn’t have a voice in the relationship. I’ve asked her to give her perspective but she always defaults to mine bc she thinks I’m smarter/worldly. She feels intimated by me and my social circle. Lately, I’ve found myself thinking for her. Anticipating her wants and needs and then adjusting my behavior to meet them. Which she appreciates but it’s frustrating 29M 27F

Trying to set family expectations and would love thoughts on 2 things. 1. How long after baby will I be ready for visitors beyond our parents? I’m thinking a few weeks. 2. Our 3 grandmothers are 1-3 hour flights away (3 diff places) and cannot travel. When will we be ready to take baby to see them? I’m thinking 4-6 months but that would also be flu/RSV season. Can’t predict the future but family is already talking about trips and I want to set expectations and do what is best for baby. TIA!!

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.

Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind.
