Find a new job.
Ive never heard of getting laid off with a few weeks notice and still getting new assignments. Do your work, but if you need to leave for an interview, that is your priority
Get. TF. Out. You’re being used
Have a frank discussion of your boss, once you have firm timelines for the project that extend beyond your end date
@SC1 I’m not following your logic. Who cares if someone else finishes the projects. This is a business. They are paying them to work so they should work. This happened to me and I did my job up until the last day bc I’m an adult and a professional Sure I took interviews and worked on my next thing but I was being paid to do a job so I did it. No one being used. Remember this is a small business and people notice and talk about you. Being a pro is pretty important. If they don’t want to do the work they can certainly turn down the two weeks extension.
Leave. Run. Quickly.
@SC1 if they are paying him then he can’t be being used.
This actually happens quite often, especially when a client cuts budgets. The agencies have to readjust and give you weeks notice.
You might be able to play these projects into a freelance role. Sure they’ve laid you off from full time, but maybe there’s still cash in the freelance budget.
They sound desperate. Take them for all they’re worth.
I’ve been laid off and had an end date that lasted a few months. The work still needs to get out and you do your job... especially since you are getting paid! In the meantime, look for new jobs.
Do the minimum and then focus on what matters.
Maybe there's nothing long term? Either way, use this time to find something better
Wtf? Usually when you're laid off as staff, you leave the building that day and dont come back. You're not a permalancer who hasnt been renewed, are you? Because if you are a contractor, you still have to do a good job until the last day.
That's a total dick move... can you get "fired" if you dont show up, eliminating your severance? Id probably just stop showing up and focus on job hunting if there are no other consequences. I mean maybe theyll say mean things about you, but who cares? Id never hold it against someone if they stopped showing up to work after being laid off.
@CD1 - if he’s/she’s being put on new projects just as he’s/she's being laid off, he’s/she’s starting them to be finished by someone else. Sounds to me like someone is being used.
SC2 has a smart idea. They obviously can’t pay your full time but if they’re putting you on new projects, freelance could be a more viable option for them.
The NY WARN Act requires businesses to keep you on for 90 days with notice if there is a large layoff. It sucks, but use the time to save money and look for work. Seriously, save the money. $405 does not pay for the Starbucks.
