Any saas company worth working at will have a first year AE working in SMB making between 45k-55k with a 50/50 split. You’ll spend a year or two learning sales acumen and then your base will go up to 75k+ by your 3rd year for sure. Better to learn this way, too, in my opinion.
There are definitely some tech companies with a higher base, but not by much. Maybe 10-15k more in a HCOL area

Entry AE is just BDRing with one extra meeting, as most are SMB (small fast deals) from what I experienced. Thus the pay often reflects that, like above mentioned you MAY get maybe 15-20k more heavily depending on company, but that’s highly variable. You won’t start making decent cash in base until you hit growth or mid-market AE level

The question heading into a recession isn’t what market will get hit.. they all do… the question is does your product solve a core business need and is it feasible to adopt during a recession… ie, is your product priced competitively for what it provides, does your product directly contribute to either lowering costs or increasing revenue and is your market receptive to said improvement. If you not only believe yes, but can see/envision why yes to those questions you should be good to go when it comes to choosing a new product to sell… that can only be said for established companies tho… startups have to be able to answer all those questions and more
