As someone who grew up in San Antonio, I highly recommend Austin
And see, I’m the reverse. Grew up in Austin but like San Antonio better
San Antonio is an amazing place.
What kind of atmosphere & experience are you wanting?
Chief
Are kids on the horizon? And what kinds of property do you want? Lots of great options here. And do know (well) a few top notch realtors who specialize in certain parts of town.
AMA
I grew up in Alamo Heights and my whole family still lives there, couldn't recommend more!
Alamo Heights is great for access and very pretty area. Cute smaller houses all the way up to mansions, and near the airport, shops, restaurants, museums, and the zoo. It is a bit insulated from some of the rest of town. San Antonio is a majority minority city (one of the first in the country to become so), but AH is very white. Not sharing this to be negative, just something that could be relevant depending on why you’re moving to SA.
The Pearl complex is not far from AH and there are housing options around there that aren’t quite in the heights but still provide lots of access. South town is an up-and-coming area with smaller shops and restaurants but lots of newer housing / town house options. Finally, I just had a friend move to St Paul Square, very close to downtown. The area seems grungy but I also think is up-and-coming and has some great bars.
why are you moving? are you getting a job at Frost or USAA?
Stone oak also has plenty of affordable first time homes all the way up to multimillion dollar properties. While it’s mostly a family area and traffic can be an issue, crime is very low.
