This is a situation where student housing the first year might make sense, or asking campus services
just talked to them and they said they will be doing the internship in the hospital so not sure if any school can help them here since she studied in Mex and now will be in Vegas for her rotations.
a co-signer. I make enough to help them but I have plans to buy a house in the next 5-12 months. How would this affect me? What options do we have? Can they remove me from the contract once my brother starts working and my SIL + housemate get their updated loan paperwork (they studied in Mex but by end of June they’ll receive more money due to increased COL (but they start their med internship before that). I’m sure they’ll pay rent responsibly, my only concern is having that rent payment tied to my “monthly payments” even though I wouldn’t be paying for it but the bank won’t care about that is my guess. Im trying to see how I can help them without interrupting my plans. Some ideas that came to mind was that they could apply for a short term lease and use my signature until they are ready to re apply on their own. TIA for your advice!
A startup called “The Guarantors” was created on the premise to solve this problem. Not sure if they’re in your area but may be worth checking out as they’ve been expanding rapidly.
If she already took out the loans, paying several months rent upfront is an option; I have paid 4 months plus first and last month’s rent upfront when I didn’t technically make enough money to rent a place on paper during graduate school. Is your brother a vet in the US or will he even be allowed to work? Honestly I would not be making plans around this other med student as it won’t be favorable from housing perspective. You could be a guarantor and I don’t think it technically gets reported to loan agencies but it is a risk I wouldn’t take on myself in this scenario with plans to purchase a house in the future. A lot of international students don’t do very well intern year (spouse is a doc) so there’s that additional risk.
thanks D1! Im sending these recommendations to them. Appreciate your time
