The current government shutdown is an argument about whether or not ACA health insurance exchange premiums will double or not (on average) on January 1. That is what the OP refers to. I'm telling him not to panic and give Congress time to sort it out, then react to what they do.
Retire to any other first world country? If you have plenty of money to live on and don't plan to work, you ought be able to find a visa program somewhere with reasonably affordable healthcare.
Probably lower on the tier of options. I think working 20 hours a week at Starbucks is better than uplifting your life and all you know of it.
Relocation is not a reasonable option for most people simply due to family connections and cultural preferences and personal comfort. Also 401k taxes are often double taxed or withdrawn at highest bracket if it’s not an exception country like Canada.
Honesty this is a key reason why I’m not interested in totally retiring (early). Comparable level of services covered with my corporate insurance costs $4.5K a month under our state’s exchange. We have 3 young kids and we use medical, dental & mental health services frequently even without major medical conditions.
I think the most challenging part is not having a PPO for the cheaper plans which includes some coverage for OON providers. Mental health services in network have insane waits and limited providers. Or when my kids needed PT and OT at various points and we went OON
