Look at Northern CA, Oregon (not Portland), Seattle, and Vermont.
The city I recommend the most is Minneapolis, MN. Specifically in Idina. You want to stay further away from the city there because it's dangerous. Idina is gorgeous - beautiful homes, affordable housing market, and great people/jobs.
I think Nevada is risky. Basically anywhere with drought that isn’t near a large body of water risks water restrictions and definitely insane power bills.
Coming from Dutch weather, the PNW isn’t a bad option. Seattle area, for example.
Chicago would probably be the closest fit for your criteria from a COL perspective. Denver is getting more expensive but is certainly progressive (and beautiful).
Beyond that COL is pretty high in the most progressive parts of the country.
If you get away from Denver metro area real estate is more affordable with the exception of Aspen, Vale, Beaver Creek and a few other resort areas. I suspect it's all a matter of preference. Recreational activities, hobbies, and if you're still working or retired. If you're tired of water, windmills, and tulips the high plains desert takes up roughly half the state
Further, we respect conservative populations having their beliefs, but we just don’t want to be a part of the anti-diversity and gun situation that we hear about on the news all the time (race theory bans, book bans, trans bans, etc). We like all people

EY 1 I do. That’s your problem.
Are you sure you want to move here 😅

Just want to push back on two intertwined ideas from A3:
1. That the 90s were fine — a dude literally blew up an entire federal government complex in OKC. The SovCit and Christian fundamentalist boys were building camps and arsenals and the FBI laid siege to two small groups of them for weeks.
2. That the 90s were worse than today. Those same SC and CF boys are now in control of the Republican Party; the Supreme Court just issued a ruling basically nullifying the 14th amendment. Things are genuinely quite bad.
Mississippi.

^^RIP all the Mississippians whose homes were wrecked in the last few hurricanes.

New England, especially Boston, and a large part of the mid Atlantic sounds like it'd be a good fit.
It might be more expensive than Austin but it sounds like it's a lot more in line with your values.
Out of curiosity, why did you decide to move to the US at this point in time? Of all times to move to the US, I would tell anyone to stay away. It’s a hot mess. Many cities have turned into dangerous, drug infested hell holes, we’re about to enter into a recession, the migrant crisis is out of control, Roe v. Wade is a disaster and don’t even get me started on the health of the public school system. Between critical race theory, teaching 9 year olds about sexual pleasure and starting to talk to children about gender identity while still in grade school is beyond comprehension. Once our kids are in college, we’re out.
Actually, M5and we have outstanding public schools in my area and I attended public school in a different state equally as good. Depends on state and area within state regarding level of shittinest. As for drug infested - have you taking a stroll through SF or Washington Square Park (NYC) lately? I walked past a couple of piles of human 💩 on Park Ave in midtown the other day on my way to work. That was lovely.
A2 - check out the school board Director in Washington State about sex Ed topic.
Colorado is pretty great! Progressive, decent sized city and tons of outdoor activities year round. Decent cost of living too
Yea home prices are crazy in Denver now.
Hi, welcome to the US. Most comments are not very helpful here. Please hold a conversation with people you know and trust. Your concerns should not be taken lightly. There will be some trade offs in making your decision but at the end of the day, only you know what is best for you and your family.

Lol my guy I’ve lived in Alaska, Hawaii*, Washington, California, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Texas.
The claim “most conservative” is a bold one in this country and definitely doesn’t belong to East Washington.

If your moving from Holland, maybe you’d like western Michigan, like Grand Rapids. It’s a small Dutch city but still has all big 4. Its about a population of 1Million and is about 2 hrs from Chicago and Detroit.
GR is literally DeVos MLM land - it is most of the the way to Christian Fascist State
New England - 1) Stamford, CT 2) Boston/Cambridge, MA to live and RI, VT, NH for vacation
Stamford isn’t as expensive as Boston.

Try New England, pretty liberal.

D2 is a 🤡
Maybe near Boston? And northeast, or northwest (seattle)
In general the closest you are to cities (and the northern half of the US) the better. For example New York State includes NYC (primarily Democrat) and many places outside of that who are primarily republican. If you drive outside of the city a couple hours into the fields, you’ll see pro-trump and anti Biden signs and people will brag about their guns.

What exactly aren’t we fans of, out of curiosity? Dude’s hella old but I don’t find much objectionable in his actual policy (other than continuing to pretend that republicans are good faith actors).

Your choice of course. However you will find growth and opportunities are greater in more libertarian environments. I would actually avoid New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and the states bordering on the Pacific Ocean, if you are entrepreneurially inclined at all.
Thank you

Check out Charlottesville, VA. It’s highly educated (UVA is one of the top public colleges in the US, with top medical, law, and business schools). CVA has a higher density of restaurants and boutiques per capita than even New York. There’s lot of culture around, it’s extremely safe and affordable. Quite liberal (despite the idiot Neo-Nazis/Trumpers that caused that riot a few years back, most of whom weren’t from the state) and is close to several major cities. (1.5 Hr from DC, 6 Hr from NYC, 2 HR from VA Beach)
All in all, not a horrible place to live. Diverse, educated, cultured.

SA1, DC has plenty of culture. NOVA has shopping centers and traffic.

New England (aka Boston if you want a city). If you want a warmer climate than San Fransisco. Seattle also works . Chicago probably as well
Boston, MA

Do yourself a favor if you haven't already... Ignore everything M3 says. He/she seems genuinely clueless and unhinged.

Thank you for this, I noticed that too. Yikes.
