My instinct tells me I need to stay the course, take the slow route and not jump to a startup that’s dangling a faster promotion in my face (AE position). I don't feel entirely competent in my current role yet. To the experienced folks out here.. did the big‑name logo on your resume or the faster scope growth matter more in the long run?

Pick the place that will measurably grow your skills and portfolio in the next 12 months. If you’re not fully competent yet, another cycle at the big brand can cement fundamentals and credibility. Faster scope is great provided you get real coaching.

The big brands that everyone knows definitely looks impressive. There is something to be said about startups on your résumé as well. It shows you’re a hard worker. However, in this economy, I would stay the course at the big brand. A lot of these startups are going to fall to pieces in a few months.

When you recruiters say at the end of a 15 min call.
“I will get back to you by the end of this week” does that really mean “your not right for this position”? Because this whole thing is a waste of time. I’ve did these calls with 3 recruiters and is yet to hear back from someone. Today would be the 4th recruiter that I’ve spoken to. Does this practice annoy you guys just as much as it does us? My dream career is to be a technical recruiter but this whole thing is discouraging.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?

Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).

Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.

Thanks for the help!

Trying to figure out if I should start as an inbound SDR, or try jumping straight into an AE role in SaaS.

I left mortgages at the beginning of the year to start a franchise business, it's now semi-self-sufficient so wanted to start a career again and I live in the Silicon Slopes area. Everyone I know is in SaaS or software engineering.

Just wondering if I should push my resume as far as possible and try to snag an AE role or take my time in a new industry and start from the bottom.

Prospecting Ae’s (or bdrs) are you getting a lower open rate/filtered by spam filters due to attaching a link, screenshot or pdf? If yes, I’m curious if it’s the same drop off rate for all or if it’s different

What are the best websites you’ve used when applying for a new job? Any that are specific to saas/tech sales or ones that have yielded good response rates?

Just received my first offer today for an SDR role and I’m trying to grind to the top of these tech sales positions. I’m in Atlanta and my OTE is 60,000. Where should I be looking to get near the 6 figure range starting out? I graduated from the University of Michigan Business school and I have two years 2 tech experience, if that helps. Thank you!
