My parents are scared that something will happen to me if I join the military. How did you guys handle this?

My parents were understandably scared and concerned when I told them I wanted to join the military. It's not a decision to be taken lightly, so I understand their hesitance. Still, I made them see that the military offers countless opportunities to learn new skills, get an education, travel, and have experiences you don't find in everyday life. After explaining all of this and showing them how much thought and research I'd put into it, they finally agreed, but only after making sure that my safety would always be at the top of my priorities.

I informed myself and explained the many ways the military takes great care of its personnel inside and outside of combat scenarios

My family and I had a lot of discussions about my decision to join the military. My parents expressed their concerns, but I was able to reassure them by providing facts about how the military has improved some of its safety protocols in recent years and the additional training that all service members must complete before being deployed

My parents had similar worries when I told them that I was joining the military, but we were able to come to a resolution after having an open discussion. The military has put in place numerous safeguards and resources to ensure the safety of its personnel. For instance, various support systems are available for all service branches, including counseling services, health care benefits, educational programs, and more.

I think there is no general way as it is up to your parents to handle it, and eventually they will accept it.

Never tell your wife to calm down. That won’t go well for you.

Instead, turn it into a question like “does someone need a time out?” Much less confrontational that way.
