Officially going in for an ADHD screening by psychiatrist office as referred by my primary care doctor. A bit nervous tbh. How long did the evaluation process take, was it very strenuous/taxing? Did you have to do any physical tests?

I'm trying to be mentally prepared for whatever is to come and also ensure my insurance will cover any additional tests, visits, etc.

Any general tips would help as I'm a bit nervous as mentioned. Thanks!!

My experience was way different than SA's. It was a total of maybe an hour, all done online. No physical tests at all (obviously), just a bunch of routine questions. Things like "Do you have trouble finishing projects?" "Do you feel like your mind is always racing?" "Do you have trouble sitting still?" I ended up getting diagnosed and prescribed 15mg Adderall 2x/daily. It's been such a gamechanger for me. I finally feel like a normal, functioning adult.

@MM thanks for sharing your experience!! That sounds so convenient and seamless, glad this has worked out well for you long term!!

Mine took about an hour, maybe 2. There was a paper test (this was 20yrs ago) and conversational questioning centered around your experience with some of the most common symptoms.

My process took a total of like 8-10 hours, over 4-5 sessions. No physical tests, only mental. I'd make sure insurance covers it as it's super expensive without insurance. The first appointment is an interview about your childhood, any difficulties in school, etc. The others were different IQ tests (WAIS IV).

Thanks both SA and A for sharing your extensive experiences. Much appreciated!

I did two tests in two different countries. My diagnosis was not recognised in a non-European country.
In France it took me 4-5 sessions with a therapist. They asked about your life, how you were at school, how is your work life, IQ test. In Canada it took 2h and it was basically a condensed version of all that. When I said that to my therapist in France he laughed and said it goes against all standards there is in Europe.

They have an app called circle medical where you can meet with physiatrists on line and they can prescribe meds online. This worked for me.

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Any tips pls?
