Every PE firm has different political situations but what I’ve found in UMM PE is that there is a focus on a different kind of optics (YMMV at smaller shops). However the focus is more on the organization, investment committee or LPs perception of a deal and positioning of an investment thesis. There is less window dressing required than consulting and less BS formatting. That being said having the right answer comes first and you better not be wrong on your dollars and cents.
You can’t bs it when it’s your money. Ultimately you doing bad work means less carry for you.
I worked in PE OPs- it’s more execution focused
Amazon1.. curious what role at Amazon you switched to. and may I ask if you found the PE work not interesting?

You’re putting capital to work. Investing is definitely going to be less about optics/bs presentation work for clients. Obv need to still make pretty slide decks for IC but it’s mostly internal and quality of analyses is more important
My experience has been that it’s very answer driven. You have to be right when you’re deploying LP dollars
You can also join the PE practice in consulting- zero BS or politics. It’s all about the answer
Yeah all of my PE cases have been 0 truth and short term thinking. E.g. “the growth rate is too low…” “the growth rate is too high…”
