Agree with BCG1, It's the present day politically correct BS That doesn't allow society to have a rational conversation on how to solve for real world problems, to include the real problem of gender diversity. Instead, its replaced with Google PR bull shit lip service so they can check the box for "doing something about diversity" but not actually change anything.
I read the memo and I think it's laced with bigotry and prejudice. Like if a catholic priest talked about how little boys are molested because of how cute they are or some farcical reason, so we should have a real conversation and stop blaming the priests who molested them.
It's threads like this that require me to take periodic sebatticals from FB.
Would you all be saying it's good to have open discourse etc if this manifesto had said that black people shouldn't be engineers? Seems to me like women are just getting the short end of the stick here. People would be outraged if he was talking about race, but gender is completely fine?

A2: Your straw man would be great if he had actually said that women shouldn't be engineers... You should maybe read the actual manifesto rather than the NYT editorialization of it.
The plain and simple truth is the guy was fired for what the PC police said was in his manifesto, not what he actually wrote.

ACN2.... you should read the "maninfesto".... he presented facts and his own views in a balanced and respectful manner. Again, some of them may not be popular, but firing him just reinforces what he said about Google's echo chamber

P2: Do you think if this employee wrote a manifesto supporting the racist BLM movement that they would have been fired? Or is using company resources to support liberal viewpoints cool?

All of your whining won't get this clown his job back. You can can post alternative facts with a keyboard on Fishbowl all you want, but let this be a warning that if you spout your BS in real life there are consequences. Fortunately it seems that most folks are tired of bias leaving the internet and polluting our everyday lives.
To take this further, should the company then also fire all religious people who haven't publicly denounced violent pages of their respective divine texts that, for example...call upon believers to finish non-believers and so on...?
Slalom: So people should get fired for publishing facts? If a PhD does a study that shows that men run faster then should be fired? Facts are facts, and they don't care about your feelings.
If people can't handle facts it is already a hostile workplace. Firing this guys doesn't make Google a hostile free workplace. All it did was show that your can't make truthful statements if the SJWs in your company get their feelings hurt by facts.
