Question—what type of retirement benefits are common for Vault 50 firms to provide associates? I’m a new first year associate at a Vault 30 firm and I just realized that, although we have both traditional and Roth 401K offerings (which I contribute to), we do not have any firm match for associates. Associates are also not entitled to profit sharing contributions until they make partner. Is this common? Or am I getting screwed?

I read a Reddit post on this a few months ago. What I gathered is that firms cannot match associate 401k contributions because employer matching contributions cannot discriminate in favor of highly compensated employees. I don’t work in benefits so I can’t elaborate further. Anyways, my firm, a V40, also does not match 401k contributions.

like

Interesting — at my large firm the staff get matching whereas the attorneys don’t. Bet that’s why.

I think it’s pretty common. Same at my V10

like

Very few firms have employer match for 401k

Helpful input—thanks!

Typical.

I receive a profit sharing contribution at my firm: 3% of comp into the 401k account

Wow! Where's this?!

Hi!

I recently did a job interview and I made it clear to the HR my expectation salary is 60k a year, non negotiable.
Today I got the job offer and they are offering me 54k. My current company is making me 50k with tons of benefits which is why I am asking for 60k.

Should I accept the offer or renegotiate?

So I've been at my job for 5+ years as a data analyst/back office support team. I made my way up into making a little over $40k. I've been WFH the past 2 yrs and overtime more than half my team has now been pulled out to work for a diff department which resulted in me taking 90% of our daily tasks to handle. I'm at a point where the salary I'm getting is disrespectfully low for all the work I do. Should I ask for a raise? And if so, how do I go about asking without sounding greedy.

Industry vets - in your experience how recession proof is insurance? I was not yet in the job market last recession but I watched my mom get laid off and struggle to find employment during that time for the next 1.5 years. I was wanting to hit the job market towards the end of this year, but now I worry that if I do move companies, the recession could put me in position of last one hired first one fired. Is it better to stay put?
